however, in my own paintings, there aren't very many times where i have the picture completed in my mind before i start painting. most of the time, i start off by letting the paint brush go wherever it wants to go. then, i see where i can go from whatever i painted up to that point. the completed piece, therefore, becomes something of a surprise for me as well as for those seeing it for the first time.
people will often ask me what the painting represents or means. often times, i have no solid interpretation of the piece. what i enjoy about painting things that aren't straightforward or easily interpreted is the question i get to ask others: "what do you think it means?"
i think part of the joy in being able to share my art with other people is hearing their own interpretation of my art. i love how one painting can result in many different explanations. not only does it give me a different view of the art piece, but it also tells me a lot about that person. depending on where that person is in life or what that person has been thinking about, the interpretation of a painting changes.
